Currency Per-Day Calculator

Convert your total trip budget into a daily allowance in the destination currency, and check how many days a target daily spend will actually last.

Enter your total budget in your home currency and an indicative exchange rate (destination-currency units per 1 unit of home currency) to see your daily allowance both ways.

Not a live rate — check a current rate before you exchange or spend.

Why think in daily allowance, not just a total

A single converted total is easy to overspend against, because it says nothing about pace. Dividing your budget by the number of days on the ground turns it into something you can actually track day to day: am I above or below my daily allowance so far? The runway calculation flips the question around — given a realistic daily spend for the region, does your budget actually cover the trip length you have planned, or do you need to trim the itinerary or the daily target?

Treat the exchange rate here as a planning figure, not a transaction rate. Banks, ATMs, and exchange counters all apply their own spread on top of the mid-market rate, so the amount that actually lands in your pocket will be a little less generous than the raw conversion.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from a normal currency converter?

A general converter turns one number into another. This tool is built around the two questions a backpacker actually has: 'if I take this much money, what's my daily allowance in local currency?' and 'if I spend this much per day, how many days will my cash actually last?'

What exchange rate should I enter?

Use a recent mid-market rate as a planning figure — the rate never used for the actual exchange, since banks, ATMs, and exchange counters all add a spread. Check a live rate close to your trip and again once you land, since currency markets move daily.

What does the runway figure tell me?

If you enter a target daily spend in the destination currency, the tool divides your total destination-currency budget by that target to show how many days it will realistically last at that pace — useful for checking whether a budget will actually cover a planned trip length before you leave.

Does this account for ATM fees or card exchange spreads?

No — it's a planning estimate on the exchange rate you supply. ATM withdrawal fees, card foreign-transaction fees, and the spread between the mid-market rate and what you're actually charged all eat into a real budget, so build in some slack beyond this tool's raw numbers.

Planning tool only, not a live exchange rate. Verify a current rate with your bank or card issuer before exchanging money or relying on this for an actual transaction.
