Starwood Hotel Rewards Points: Starpoints

Hotels that are part of the Starwood program include: Sheraton, Four Points by Sheraton, Westin, Aloft, Luxury Collection, Le Meridian, Element, and St. Regis.

Starwood Hotels Have One of the Best Reward Points Programs

How do the points work in the Starwood program?

All hotels are grouped into categories 1-7. You can see a full chart here.

Redemption rates for Starwood Hotel Categories

1-4 categories are as follows:

Category 1: Weekday night = 3,000 points. Weekend night (Friday or Saturday) = 2,000 points

Category 2: Weekday night = 4,000 points. Weekend night (Friday or Saturday) = 3,000 points

Category 3 = Any night 7,000. If you stay 5 nights you get one free. Thus, five nights = 28,000 points.

Category 4 = Any night 10,000. If you stay 5 nights you get one free. Thus, five nights = 40,000 points.

Click here to view an entire list of Starwood hotels organized by country and category. Just select your desired category and geographical area and it will tell you if there are any hotels in that area that fall into the selected category.

In addition to the numerous hotel options you can also use points to convert to many of the hotel programs. If you convert 20,000 points there is a 20% bonus, thus giving you 25,000 points in the airline program. To check participating airline programs click here.

You can even redeem point for gift cards. Click here to see options.

The best way to earn Starpoints is with the Starwood American Express.  You get 10,000 points when you sign up.  That’s enough for three free nights.  See my guide to getting free Starwood nights.

In the future I will introduce why I like Starpoints and how to maximize your points earning.
