Paul,
I think we've got it all worked out. Looks like we're going to get a flight to Hawaii that's only going to cost us the BA miles to get to DFW. For the family it's an extra 22,500 miles and $12.50.

My next task is to take care of free hotels!

I was also denied and when I called to inquire about it was given the same reason. Not only
that but the person on the line that I spoke with re-checked my credit without my asking her
too and I only knew about it because I received a letter in the mail notifying me that I was
denied again!!!!!!!! No matter that I have thousands of dollars in the bank and plenty of household
income and have paid my credit cards off monthly for over 20 years. I think other things should
be taken into consideration and feel it is very discriminatory against stay-at-home spouses,or
in my case, spouses who do volunteer work in their community freeing up jobs for people who
really need them to support their families.

Sean,
I'm sorry to say this if you didn't transfer your Ultimate Rewards out of the account before you closed it I bet you won't be able to use them. You could call customer service just to confirm.

Does it work if you purchase four $50 gift cards in one transaction, or should it be separate transactions? If separate transactions, should there be a span of time (how long?) between each purchase? Has anyone tried this with any airline besides American?

Carol,
You'll first need to select your preferred airline from the list of eligible airlines. What matters is how the purchase shows up and how it is categorized. So if you went to aa.com and bought a gift card it would recognized as an aa.com purchase and should be credited. Yes, you can later use the gift cards to purchase a ticket.

Tony,
Very true. I don't usually stay at high end hotels, but it's definitely a good benefit for those who would use it.
